Here is a table of the amount of suicide among college students in mainland per year. As is shown above, in 2002, the amount of suicide was 28, and increased to 68 in 2004. And the increase rapidly continued in the following two years, they are 116 in 2005 and 130 in 2006. The number is increasing year by year, what may be regarded as a big problem of the whole society.
Actually, I was shocked when I read this topic and the statistics. I just can’t believe that the numbers are so large and trending up. I searched some reports and articles on this topic and found the source of the problem almost to be the heavy pressure of the college students at present. This is an age with drastic competition. The college students face the problems and pressure from all aspects, such as taking up an occupation, taking examination to get master’s degree, and some sentimental problems like taking care of the relationship with a boyfriend/girlfriend or facing failures on study and daily life.
To avoid the suicide happen or to stop the increase of the number of suicide, I think the most important and efficient measure should be taken is to enhance the communication among college students to realize their psychologies and educate ones who are negative. And I believe it’s necessary to make them to learn how to take all kinds of problems in hand. Suicide means to kill one by oneself, no body can stop it because everyone’s life is in control of oneself. Attitude decides everything. One who with positive attitude on life won’t come up with the idea to end his life, I’m sure.

Nowadays, as the development of the society and the economy, as well as the IT industry, network has become a more and more important tool for us to get information and realize what happens all around the world. I think it’s a universal phenomenon among the teenagers that they prefer to surf the Internet rather than read newspapers. Why? Because it’s fast and convenient. If you are looking for a news report days ago, you can just input the keywords and then press SEARCH, the search engine will respond with thousands of documents which match the keywords. And we can send an E-mail and make the other side receive it within few minutes or even seconds, instead of post a letter with a stamp and be worried about if it can be delivered in time and safely.
Although the network improves our efficiency on daily life and work, it also brings troubles. As it contains quantities of information, there is unavoidable bad information such as porn, violence and reactionary that is unsuitable for young people to get. There is much fade information on the Internet as well. For example, one day you received an E-mail titled with the worker of a bank and were told that there were some errors with your bank account and provided you a link to modify your personal information. The website is just the same as the real one, and when you login with your password, what will happen? Just Imagine it. The network also brings problems such as addicting people and network tricks.
To eliminate these bad phenomena, i think the most important is to build system to normalize the Internet. For the pornographic and violent information, if are domestic websites, should be closed down, and if are overseas, should be forbidden to access from domestic network gateway. To make people avoid being treated and addicted on Internet, education comes first. And then measures have to be taken to close down the fade websites and get the website master arrested. With normative system be formed, i think the network will be cleaned.
